PROJECT X - Ultimate Diesel Performance
This is the first of our X kits, the Golf MkIV, because it is the first
we have decided to provide a detailed description of the stages of
modification.
An X Kit is designed to gain the maximum power from a modern diesel engine whilst not sacrificing fuel efficiency or the safety of that engine. Each kit is designed so that there are no or little mechanical modification and can be easily fitted by a competant DIY enthusiast as well as our distributors. At the heart of each X-Kit is our Tunit diesel tuning device, this allows us to adjust the unit during modification and upgrading.
Each X kit will be different for each car, some involving no more than a specific intercooler and a few tweaks whilst others will involve fitting injectors, induction modifications, turbo modifications etc. As we will do with all our X-Kits the Golf MkIV was intensively trialled and tested before being released for sale.
So here it is at last, sorry if its been a long time for those who have been waiting...
The 1st X-Kit
developed for the Golf MKIV 110 bhp
(it may also be used on any other vehicle with the same engine and the 90 hp variation)
These are power and torque curves for the Golf as standard. As you can see this Golf is as close to standard as they usually get and is an average car with 60,000 miles on the clock.
The bhp is 107 (red line, left scale) an the torque is 179.1 lbs ft (blue line, right scale) the rpm is shown across the bottom

Stage 1: The Tunit
All those familiar with our products will recognise this clever device, Tunit I, suited to the VW Audi with original manufacturers plugs.
Its adjustable tuning makes it ideally suited to someone wanting to continually improve their performance as it gives ease of compatibility at each stage. (A chip would mean a new chip at each stage of improvement, the same applies with a serial re-map)
The Tunit is very easily fitted, just simply pull apart the original plug next to the fuel pump and fit between.
The end result just with the tunit is 135.1 bhp and 240.9 lbs ft of Torque. Power and torque is vastly increased with the tunit alone, giving more torque lower down and extending the range of rpm beyond its normal 4000-4200 rpm where it normally dies off. Overtall acceleration benefits greatly at this stage.

Stage 2: The Tunit & Induction Kit
As you can see the bhp as well as the torque is improved quite well with just the addition of the induction kit. The tunit is adjusted at this stage to make use of the extra oxygen now flowing into the engine.

Stage 3: Larger Intercooler and modified injectors, Tunit & Induction Kit
This now makes a dramatic difference as seen in the graph below. Greatly increased torque particularly is noticed in 3rd and 4th gear as well as all through the range. The tunit can be turned up again at this stage as the amount of fuel and air available to the engine has greatly increased. The extra pulling power and greater acceleration is instantly noticeable, giving a very pleasant and extremely rapid drive. The Intercooler is a hand crafted aluminium design, tailored to give maximum cooling capacity specifically for this engine. The intercooler may have to be slightly reduced in size if the car has air conditioning, in some cases this may reduce overall power by a few bhp.

Stage 4: Final Tweaks
This is a combination of our few of our own special modifications including manifold, exhaust, and turbo which can be carried out at ourselves or any of our distributors. All the changes are fully reversible and are not detrimental to the engine. As you can see this gives that extra bit of punch to the final kit, producing 161bhp and 300 lbs ft of torque.
We could tell you exactly what we do at this stage, but we would have to kill you afterwards... shhh it's Project X!
